The Czech Republic perspective on Digitalization and AI: How can your organization benefit from cross-border cooperation?

New impulses for cooperation between Germany and the Czech Republic in the field of digitalization

In order to increase the economic growth and competitiveness of the European Union, cross-border cooperation with forward-looking technologies such as artificial intelligence is necessary. Increasing importance is being attached in particular to research and development of artificial intelligence in the Czech Republic.

The member state offers a fertile ecosystem for artificial intelligence due to its good research and development infrastructure in addition to its international technology companies and innovative start-ups. Numerous public research institutions drive AI research and development, focusing on fundamental application-oriented AI issues. With an ambitious national AI strategy, the Czech Republic wants to position itself as a location for a European AI centre in the future.

On February 18, 2021, bwcon and xitee will host a conference on the topics of digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The conference will bring together international speakers to provide insights into the trends, developments and strategies in Baden-Württemberg and the Czech Republic. The purpose of the online conference is to give new impulses for cross-border cooperation and knowledge transfer and to help initiate new cooperation and partnerships between the two countries.

Moderator: Dr. Kai v. Schilling

Welcome and Opening

04.20 pm – 04.35 pm Dr. David Michel, Director of the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony in the Czech Republic

Artificial intelligence is bringing changes to our societies, economies and everyday lives. Research and development in Germany, specifically in Saxony and the Czech Republic have already made a great step forward in shaping this movement. Governments are working on strategies, legal requirements and investments to make the transformation a success. Confronted with developments in other parts of the world, we find ourselves in need to explore and set new trends for AI-related research also in our region. The best results can only be achieved through cooperation, for which the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony provides platforms to initiate an interactive dialogue and foster even closer partnerships to manage future challenges.

04.35 pm – 04.50 pm Mascha Eckhardt, Economist „Industrial and Technology Policy, Digitization“, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Housing of the State of Baden-Württemberg

Supporting the commercialization of AI innovations “made in BW” – The program “KI made in BW” was designed in order to push the development of AI as a key enabling technology for future economic competitiveness. Ms. Eckhardt will introduce the different policy instruments within the program, e.g. AI innovation park or AI competitions for SMEs.

04.50 pm – 05.05 pm Roland Becker, CEO JUST ADD AI Group

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a paradigm-shift in the way we can work with data and computers. The keynote speech explains the way AI currently works, highlights the possibilities of AI today and gives a look into the future.

05.05 pm – 05.20 pm Pavel Chovanec, Foreign Representative for Dach Region

We have noticed the increased interest of German entities in mergers and acquisition in digital industry. The presentation provides overview of the investment trends and adapted support available for investments in the Czech Republic.

05.20 pm – 05.35 pm Petr Fiala, CEO Soft Vision

Soft Vision is a AI start-up based in Prague with focus to „apply state-of-the-art AI advances to real world problems“. Since 2018 it has been successfully trading crypto-currencies using machine learning and tackled few challenges in healthcare. The keynote speech gives an insight into their project AIDoctor. Healthcare professionals spend up-to 2/3 of their time with administrative tasks. The start-up wants to reduce it through automatization and has started off with generating codes for insurance company report from medical record.

05.35 pm – 05.50 pm Sara, Communication Manager, Prag AI

Sara will be presenting the AI study done by Aspen Institute Central Europe which investigates the reality of AI in practice in Czech Republic compared to the hypothetical strategy of AI implementation across the country (with focuses on areas such as education and Industry 4.0 being some of the core themes). AI is the next technological evolutionary stage, but only if it’s taught in a multidisciplinary way and if it’s accurately demystified, while showcasing all the opportunities of applied AI such as machine learning in predictive maintenance or revolutionising the healthcare system through personalised treatment. AI presents a huge opportunity for humanity and we need to grasp it in the right way in order to succeed.
